Bringing Vigiland’s computer-based electronic world of House into harmony with Gävle Symphony Orchestra’s analog universe was a challenge that inspired and excited Peter Nordahl. Perhaps it takes a composer/conductor/arranger with one foot firmly planted in bebop and the other in the works of the classical masters, to find a way to tear down the presumptive walls between these genres.
“The Vigiland duo had probably never even seen a bassoon or a tuba before this project; their music-making process takes place within a computer. On the other hand – Vigiland’s digital and ‘artificial’ way of creating music is certainly very odd and novel for a symphony orchestra.”
