The Royal Orchestra

Royal Orchestra Concert conducted and arranged by Peter Nordahl

Peter will be conducting the Royal Orchestra in concert May 8, 2014 at Stockholms Stadsteater. Soloists Sarah Riedel and Nicolai Dunger will be singing songs by among others Olle Adolphson and Cornelis Vreeswijk in new arrangements by Peter. TICKETS HERE

Monica Z Soundtrack

Soundtrack from the film Monica Z

The first review of the “Monica Z” soundtrack, recently released by Universal Music, has arrived.

Below is an abridged English translation – the full review follows in Swedish.

The premier of the film about Swedish jazz singer Monica Zetterlund is just under a month away. It is an amazingly good biopic about one of [Sweden's] greatest performers. (…)
Peter Nordahl has done a terrific job, both as a pianist and as a producer and arranger. (…)
…the generous string section is allowed to become both romantic and dramatic and could be mistaken for a Hollywood production (just listen to the way the strings and horns build up the song “En gång i Stockholm”). On that note, Peter Nordahl’s beautiful instrumental suite, which is the last track on the album, hints that he probably could make it as a composer  in the American film industry as well.

Review for the soundtrack for the motion picture "Monica Z"

“Monica Z” wins prize for Best New Nordic Film at The Norwegian International Film Festival

The Norwegian International Film Festival Haugesund 2013

The jury’s motivation: An impressive, solid film in which the core story revolves around the personal cost of creativity and success. Period details are perfect down to the minutiae in colors, interiors, clothing and surroundings, and the way the film melds images and music has an “almost too good to be true-quality” about it.

First Gold Record for “A”

We received our first gold record for the album “A” last night at Stockholm Pride. We are proud and happy!

Conducting the Gävle Symphony Orchestra

Peter Nordahl conducting Gävle Symphony Orchestra

Yesterday I conducted the wonderful Gävle Symphony Orchestra in a program that included composers like Korngold, Bernstein, Sondheim & Morricone. Music from film and theatre. Unique soprano, Myrra Malmberg, sang as beautiful as ever!
Earlier this week I conducted and produced a Christmas album with the same orchestra together with swedish singer Jill Johnson. The album is exclusivly produced for Childhood Foundation.

Break the Spell

Jörgen Elofson, Björn Skifs, Peter Nordahl

This was the day when Björn completed the vocals on the forthcoming album and I must say that it has been a true pleasure working with him. He sings his heart out!!! Jörgen (to the left) wrote all the songs and together we  have produced the album. The first singel, “Break the Spell”  will be released on august, 15.

Commissioned Piece for Anders Wall

Anders Wall

Tomorrow I will start to write an orchestra piece to honor Anders Wall on his 80th birthday. The piece will have its world premiere in a special concert later on this year. I imagine a worthy and joyous piece.

Philomène at the Big Bang concert

Philoméne Grandin in action at the Big Bang Concert with the Swedish Wind Ensemble. Peter Nordahl, conductor.

The host at the Big Bang Concert was the wonderful actress Philomene Grandin (Philofix from Bolibompa) who guided the children through the concert amazingly well. Here you can see her in her space suit from “Vid Vintergatans Slut” together with kids from Djurgårdsskolan. Let´s do it again!!!

Conducting The Swedish Wind Ensemble

Peter Nordahl conducting the Swedish Wind Ensemble

Today I have completed a very successful series of concerts with The Swedish Wind Ensemble. The concerts were titled “Big Bang” and the repertoire was inspired by planets and space in different ways. The main audiences were kids between 7-10 and it sure seemed like they had a good time. We also had a couple of school classes that participated on stage singing and reading their own poems inspired of the above mentioned theme. During the concert we showed their great paintings on a big screen while we played Gustav Holt´s Mars and Jupiter. To offer the children some contemporay music we played Molly Keins 134340 Pluto and Thérèse Brenets 5523 Luminet 1991 PH8. Together with Star Wars Saga and the main theme from Star Trek we created a great blend of different music styles. The Concerts were held at Nybrokajen 11 in Stockholm. I love this orchestra and I hope I will be back soon for another production.

World Premiere of “De Ondas Svit” from the TV-series “Vintergatan”

Peter Nordahl conducting the Swedish Wind Ensemble.

I forgot to mention that I conducted the world premiere, at the Big Bang Concert, of my own piece “De Ondas Svit” which is a suite based on the “dark themes” from the TV-series “Vid Vintergatans Slut” (The End of the Milky Way) that I scored last year for Malmö Symphony Orchestra. “Vid Vintergatans Slut” has been one of the most popular TV-series for children in Sweden and it was actually the first time I conducted a piece that I had written myself. It felt great and I hope I get the chance to do it again soon. Fingers crossed that I will be able to conduct the two orchestral pieces that I have just been commisioned to write.

At rehearsals

Next week I will conduct The Swedish Wind Ensemble in a series of conserts for children. Here I am in action at the last rehearsal in this very old concert hall called Nybrokajen 11. From April 1 this wonderful orchestra will move in here permanently and that was about time because they have been struggling for many years without a “real” home.

World premiere – Shades of Green, Shades of Red

Peter Nordahl and Henrik Schaefer
Here am I together with Maestro Henrik Schaefer after the concert in Karlstad on October 7, 2010.
It was a wonderful concert which included my new piece “Shades of Green, Shades of Red”, plus music from Wagner’s “Tristan & Isolde” and Bruckner’s 5th symphony.

“Shades of Green, Shades of Red” is a comment on the 1986 pollution disaster in the Rhine River when the pollutants turned the river red. It is very sad to see history repeating itself in Hungary and the Donau at the same time my piece is being premiered.

Below you can see the text that I wrote about my piece for the concert programme. An english translation will be made soon!

Shades of Green, Shades of Red – rehearsals

MOV00236

Wonderful conductor Henrik Schaefer during rehearsals of my new piece for symphony orchestra.
The piece was commisioned by VärmlandsOperans Sinfonietta and Dalasinfoniettan.
The world premiere will be tomorrow and I´m very excited.

Last note by Måns Zelmerlöw

Great work by Måns Zelmerlöw! This photo was taken right after the last note and Måns is celebrating by showing us the Victory sign. A victory for the “old school” production and for a dedicated crooner to be!

Recording engineer: Micke Herrström after midnight!
